Don Myers Humanitarian Award Committee

In the 2009, the DDAA Humanitarian Award was renamed the Don Myers Humanitarian Award by the DDAA Board of Directors in honor of Donald Myers, Executive Director of the Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association, Cambridge, Ohio.  Don was a Board Member of the DDAA, a dedicated public servant throughout his career, and an individual who cared deeply about the Appalachian Region and the citizens he served.

Past Winners.

Purpose:
To recognize individuals who through their meritorious contributions of leadership and community service have enriched Appalachia.  The award will be presented to invididuals whose lives have been marked by actions that have (1) led to the growth and development of Appalachia (2) enhanced the fabric of their local community, and (3) reinforced the sense of selflessness and self-reliance so strongly seeded within Appalachian communities

Criteria:
  • Measurable evidence of extraordinary service to others through advocacy, charity, and volunteerism
  • Evidence of unique and/or innovative strategies of engangement
  • Evidence of effort/results inspiring and engaging others

Selection process:

  • Nominations come from respective LDDs and/or States
  • Reviewed by Don Myers Humanitarian Award Committee
  • Don Myers Humanitarian Award Committee makes recommednation to DDAA Board of Directors
  • DDAA Board of Directors selects award recipient and contacts appropriate nominating LDD/State
  • Nominating LDD/State contacts recipient and invites him/her to DDDA Conference
